Project case study
One home, one cohesive palette.
The goal was a complete exterior reset: one cohesive palette across the siding, trim, gutters, downspouts and architectural details of a DeWitt home. The siding was finished in Slumber Sloth with Sherwin-Williams Duration, and every accent — trim, fascia, gutters, downspouts, the crescent details and the circular front feature — was finished in a custom-mix black.

Scope
Full exterior repaint: Hardie board siding, trim, fascia, gutters and downspouts, plus the decorative crescent accents and the circular front detail. The existing deck was already in place and was not part of the painting scope.
Preparation
Standard exterior prep before any coating went on: surfaces cleaned and prepared for adhesion, landscaping, fixtures and non-painted surfaces protected while work was underway. Prep is what a repaint’s lifespan is built on.
Products & why
The body went in Slumber Sloth (SW 9606) using Sherwin-Williams Duration — chosen because it is rated for application down to 35°F, which matters in Michigan’s shoulder seasons, and because its film build stands up to Mid-Michigan sun, wind and freeze-thaw on fiber-cement siding. Trim, fascia, gutters and downspouts were finished in a Sherwin-Williams custom mix matched to another manufacturer’s charcoal black for the sharp contrast against the Slumber Sloth body.
Timeline
Exterior repaints of this scale run in days, not weeks, once the weather window holds — prep, coating and detail work sequenced so no elevation sits half-finished overnight.
